TRAVEL AND PHOTOGRAPHY - BILL FERRY
70 years ago human thunder and lightning descended on a broad swath of Normandy beaches. This is Omaha Beach today, so benign looking but so full of grim history.
Over 9,000 Americans are at rest here, a number of them unknown.
The Germans had a fierce defensive line for hundred of miles. After visiting, the thought comes that it is a wonder we won the war to see how commanding a presence they had here.
The cemetery at Omaha beach. There are 21 American cemeteries in Europe and North Africa.
These are townsfolk from Merville-Franceville, another town in the Normandy region. There is a procession of French and American groups who come throughout the year to pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
